Indiana Community Foundations
One of the reasons why community foundations (CFs) are the most rapidly growing organizations in the nation is that they have been promoted or sponsored by large private foundations. For example, in Indiana a major foundation showed great vision for the future of Indiana by funding a program to create 60 community foundations in all of the mid-sized and larger communities of Indiana. The program was based on the assumption that the CFs would eventually become very effective in encouraging local philanthropy.
While this program has been quite productive, very few of the mid-sized community foundations had a full-featured gift marketing program. When the Indiana Community Foundations discovered GiftCharity, there was an instant recognition of the potential for a joint program to greatly enhance philanthropy in Indiana. The Indiana Community Foundations launched GiftCharity in the Spring of 2008 with the Indianapolis based Alliance Office acting as the Parent organization. With over 60 foundations joining in the GiftCharity program in Indiana, the Indiana foundations anticipate a substantial increase in gifts.
